Lianne Barnett, 31, a beautician from Stoke on Trent. first developed adult acne at 25 which her doctor mistakenly diagnosed as dermatitis.
“As a teenager I had lovely clear skin and thought I had escaped the curse of teen acne like many of my friends suffered.
But when I was 25 I went through quite a stressful period when I was changing jobs and my skin just started breaking out.
At first I thought it was some kind of skin reaction to a beauty product or my make-up but it just never cleared up.
The acne would start as large painful lumps under the skin that after a few days would burst and then it would stay there for weeks before it healed up.
I tried normal acne products from Boots none worked. After a year, when I was 26, with my skin going from bad to worse I eventually went to the doctors and they gave me a cream for dermatitis as they thought I had skin allergy because I had never had acne in the past.
A year later after I complained several times that the cream was not working they prescribed me steroids when I was 27, which made my skin even worse and also really sensitive. While using the steroid cream my acne actually got worse and the underlying skin was red and raw.
I eventually gave up going to the doctors as when I went back to see them to tell them that the steroids were not working and my skin was even worse they just told there was nothing more they could do for me and that what I had must be ‘something hormonal.’ And that I should just try and put up with it.
So I took matters into my own hands and found a product called Alpha H Liquid Gold, which is a glycolic acid peel which was supposed to be brilliant for acne and at £40 for a small bottle I was expecting miracles. All it did was make my skin sting and dried my skin out completely. My acne didn’t budge
After that I made my way through most products I read about in magazines, saw on blogs and recommendations from people for acne, but nothing worked. My acne was getting progressively worse and my skin felt constantly infected and sore.
I got to the stage where I would not leave the house, not even to the shop, without a thick layer of make-up. The only people that I ever let see me without make up was my mum and dad.
My acne really got me down and eroded my confidence. I’m normally a very upbeat and sociable person and for a while I must admit it did make me feel quite miserable and anti-social. I didn’t really feel like going out much, and when I did I had to spend hours to get ready to cover up all my spots. Then I’d spend half the evening worrying that my make up for wearing off or sliding off my skin and had to keep popping to the bathroom to check my acne wasn’t on show.
I started dating someone when I was 28 and I honestly never let him see me without a full face of make up on. I’d get up in the morning before he woke up to re-apply my make-up. He never said anything bad about my skin as he knew how sensitive I was about it.
I would get the comments at work or from friends asking me what was going on with my skin. I know people were just trying to be helpful or concerned but it made me feel awful that they were noticing my skin.
When I was 30 I gave up with products for several months as everything I tried was making my skin worse and worse.
That was until about 18 months ago my mum saw an article in a magazine on Clarol Silver Serum. It was someone about my age who like me had tried everything for her acne and then she’d found this serum and it had transformed her skin in weeks.
She convinced me to try it because it was a mostly natural product that worked differently to other products as it claimed to build up good skin bacteria on your skin rather than just trying to attack the acne. I had never tried anything that was so natural for my acne before.
I remember the first time I put the silver serum on my skin the itching and soreness calmed down almost immediately. Within a week I could start to see the angriness of my skin reducing, it was less red and less sore. Then over the following weeks the spots themselves began to reduce in size and didn’t hurt so much.
Within five weeks of using the Silver Serum twice a day my skin was almost clear.
I have been using it every day since and would never now go a day without it. My acne has not really ever come back. I get the odd isolated spot now and then but it’s nothing compared to the state my skin used to be in.
It’s honestly the best thing I have ever tried in my life for my skin and I sweat by it. I’m just so grateful to my mum for making me try it.”
