Our new natural cold sore rescue gel containing an extract of liquorice and melissa oil could help reduce the intensity of cold sore outbreaks.

Cold sores effect almost 30 million people in the UK. The herpes cold sore virus (herpes simplex) can be picked up from one simple kiss and stays with you for life, with some sufferers experiencing outbreaks as often as once a month.

Liquorice & Melissa rescue lip gel claims to help reduce the intensity of cold sore outbreaks due to its strong anti-viral action.

The two key cold sore fighting ingredients in the rescue lip gel are glycyrrhizic acid (GA) from liquorice and melissa oil.

What’ s the evidence that Liquorice & Melissa gel works?

Liquorice specifically targets the genes that are required to maintain the cold sore virus in its latent state by interfering with the production of special proteins that feed the infected cold sore cells.

Liquorice was found to be effective at fighting cold sores in a double-blind trial, carried out by the Herpes Viruses Association. It reduced the severity and duration of cold sore outbreaks for over 73% of subjects tested and, furthermore, 83% of subjects using the liquorice balm reported experiencing less severe cold sore outbreaks than when using their conventional treatments. While using the liquorice lip balm, testers reported that on average their cold sore outbreaks were only half their normal length.

Melissa oil is renowned for its strong anti-viral action. A study published in the prestigious journal Phytomedicine, found that a concentrated extract of 50 micro/ml had a significant anti-viral effect on cold sores.
