We are told to avoid sugar as much as possible for better skin but new research has found that sugar could actually be the next solution for younger looking and stronger skin.

Glycans are sugars on the surface of skin cells and may hold the key to slowing the ageing of the skin as well as speeding up the repair of damaged skin. Glycan levels drop as the skin ages or is damaged. Glycan loss causes skin cells not to communicate with each other with the same energy as they did when the skin was younger or less damaged.

So in theory a skin cream containing glycans could help older or damaged skin cells to start behaving more like younger skin cells meaning the skin fed with additional glycans would start to produce more collagen and heal faster after injury or trauma.
